4 Ways To Embrace Post-Pandemic Life As A Graduate

Feb 28, 2021

Now that the lockdown restrictions have been eased somewhat, it’s time to embrace your newfound post-pandemic freedom.

Whether you decide to dust off those old football boots, polish up the CV, start a new job, or simply go and visit some old friends again, after spending months and months on end stuck inside, you finally now have the opportunity to remind yourself of how great non-pandemic life can actually be.

If you’re stuck for ideas on what to spend your spare time doing though then don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.

In this guest post by Dakota Murphey, we will take you through some great ideas to both embrace post-pandemic life while improving your own personal skill-set at the same time. From learning to drive to picking up a new instrument, there are a number of things you can do to make the most of your newfound freedom.

1. Learn To Drive

If you’re one of those people who always say they’re going to learn to drive but then never actually gets around to doing it, then – this time – actually do it. With tests opening up again there has never been a better time to start learning to drive than this Summer.

Learning to drive is a truly life-changing experience and will open up a whole host of new avenues to explore, so don’t be afraid to finally book in and prepare for that driving test you’ve been meaning to.

From road trips around the UK to driving to visit your long-distance best friend, why not make the most of your post-lockdown freedom by getting a feel for the open road?

2. Learn That Skill You’ve Been Meaning To

You know the one we mean. Everyone has that one thing they wish they knew how to do, so why not finally go and learn it?

It could be brushing up your digital marketing skills, learning how to nail an interview, or a new life skill like learning a language– whatever it is you’ve been itching to do in your life, take the time now to go out and do it.

Find a class, meet the experts and we promise you’ll feel a lot better for having had the motivation to push yourself. You’ll also be able to utilise that skill for the rest of your life, so what’s stopping you?

3. Move House

Whether you’ve been at home with Mum and Dad for just a bit too long or are just finding your student house a bit cramped, you’re not alone in wanting a change. After having spent so long in the same environment, more and more people are wanting to move house. Sometimes you simply outgrow a place and need a change of scenery.

And, thanks to the government’s decision to not incur Stamp Duty Land Tax at the moment, now is an especially good time to buy, since you could actually save a substantial amount in terms of moving costs.

If there’s a place you’ve always wanted to live – whether it be down by the coast or somewhere more central – don’t be afraid to take a leap of faith.

4. Find your Dream Job

With businesses looking to open in the coming months, it’s a great time to start looking for the right graduate job for you.

This can feel very daunting, especially after the pandemic, but even if you only update your CV and start the process of looking you’ll be on the right track to the career you’ve always wanted.

There are loads out of graduate jobs out there, so it’s important to understand what your skills are and what area you really want to be in. If you feel overwhelmed, you could try one-to-one career coaching to find the perfect role for you.

Final Thoughts…

From changing your living circumstances to landing that dream job, there are a ton of great ways to embrace your post-lockdown freedom.

In essence, the choice really only comes down to you and you alone. Think back to when we were in the peak of lockdown and ask yourself: what did I crave most? Was it a new job, a new house, or something else entirely?

Whatever it is, remember how important it is to make the most of your life while you can and make your dreams a reality. You never know when the next pandemic could hit, after all.
