BOTH BOOKS
Jack Catherall, Managing Director Wiser Elite and Wiser Digital

“We talk and interview with literally thousands of students every year and less than 5% of them really know what they need to do to land that vital first job. These books should be compulsory reading for every student and new graduate. We highly recommend it.”

“It’s a tough world out there for graduates — and students definitely know it. As a result, we’re seeing more and more that they’re preparing for post-graduation life early. The Student Book and The Graduate Book are invaluable resources, showing them exactly how to get ahead of the game whilst still at uni, and what to do if they’ve left their career planning until the very last minute! From a real-life success story, it offers crucial advice in an engaging and light-hearted way. An essential wherever you are in your university career or graduate job search!”

THE STUDENT BOOK

“This book is really helpful for Graduates / International students seeking employment. The Author ‘Chris Davies’ has given detailed information about the skills that Employers are looking for. He has also highlighted how to create an Employer friendly CV and things to consider before and after interviews. Also I believe that we can learn one or two from his life experiences as well. Overall ‘The Student Book’ is all you need to excel in job application and interviews.”

“The Student Book really is the most comprehensive guide available on graduate employment. There is a considerable volume of books out there dedicated to advising students and graduates on how to succeed in the graduate market, but Chris Davies’ book provides a level of knowledge and insight unmatchable by the hundreds of other generic guides. In the first few chapters of Davies’ book, I identified weaknesses in my approach to getting my first graduate job, where university careers advisors could not. ‘The Student Book’ really is crucial reading for students who want to maximize their potential.”

“This is the perfect guide for any student or recent graduate who is beginning to consider their life and career post-academia.

The author, Chris Davies, has years of experience in coaching graduates, which he utilises throughout the book, using case studies and examples to demonstrate the advice he gives. Beginning by telling the story of his own university experience and getting his first job, his personal approach within the book makes it thoroughly more engaging than a typical student/career guide.

Chris highlights the value and importance of taking part in non-academic aspects of university in order to prepare yourself for post-student life by developing workplace skills that attract potential employers, rather than relying purely on your degree in job applications.

He guides the reader by laying out what skills are necessary for candidates to be successful in getting (and keeping) the job they’re after and how to develop those skills alongside your studies. He then uses case studies to demonstrate how you can prove you have those skills in you CV in order to get an interview, followed by advice for interview preparation as well as for the interview itself.

Throughout the book there are relevant diagrams that are really helpful for processing the information, especially if you are dyslexic, as I am. There are also exercises included which makes the whole process more engaging and useful as you can straightaway begin to see how the information is relevant to your own experience and can utilise this to start developing your own CV, job applications and interview technique.

This book would really suit any student – whether still in school or sixth form, on their gap year, those in university and those already graduated – as an insightful guide into the process of getting the job that you actually want.

As a recent graduate I have found this book, and its partner The Graduate Book, immensely useful as I begin to focus on starting and developing my own career, and I highly recommend it for anyone else wanting to do the same.”

“It has been an amazing experience to read the Student Book and to be honest, I wish I had such a guideline when I was just starting my university years. In this book, Chris explained perfectly what a student should do in order to succeed in getting a job or succeed in their career goals.

Whilst some students relax when at university, Chris expressly explains why such experience should be a constructing and challenging one. I completely loved the fact that Chris used examples from his life experience to underline the challenges that he faced and how he overcame them, giving a great example of never giving up. The positivity that can be read between the lines of the book and its easy vocabulary is suitable for even international students who might struggle in the beginning with the language.

I believe such a book should be read by everybody who is facing challenges at the beginning of their career as they will learn very important advice from a person who succeeded in achieving his dreams on his own. In other words, the Student Book is a great start and guideline for anyone who is trying to pursue their dreams but has limited knowledge about the process. As an international student, the guideline presented in such a book, helped me succeed in my interview process and even succeeded to land me my first graduate job. The nine essential skills that must be used in an interview and the other grateful advice presented in this book, definitely improved my knowledge about how to obtain the role I wanted and definitely will help other students who are at the moment in my past position.”

“After a stark reminder of the difficulties of finding a graduate job, Chris dives in to a wonderfully laid out and simple outline on how to to best equip yourself to tackle this daunting task. Interweaving his own personal experience Chris outlines the key skills required to get a graduate job, how to get these skills and also how best to showcase these on your CV as well as lots of other useful advice for any graduate. It is a nice easy and refreshing read compared to a lot of other dense and rather dry career guides while still providing a whole wealth of information. All in all, this is a tool that I could not recommend enough for anyone delving into the brutal world of job hunting!”

“This book is really helpful and gives a brief description of the skills that Employers are looking for. Being an International student it is a stepping stone to familiarize yourself with the skills required in the Industry. Chris Davies the author of this book has years of experience in coaching and has written his life experiences which I believe is really valuable for the Graduates like me to learn at least a few. From my experience of reading this book I would definitely recommend it for a student who is looking for employment, regardless of being a Home / International Student. Thank you for ‘The Student Book’ Chris.”

“5.0 out of 5 stars. The best book for any undergraduate serious about their future! I found this book to be a true learning curve for any student looking to expand their knowledge and capabilities through the application and interview process. Chris brilliantly lays out the key aspects that employers are looking for and offers advice and information to help develop these skills. Tasks and questions throughout the book also allow you to connect more to the fundamental qualities that every undergraduate should have and are written inside. I highly recommend this book if any student is serious about their future employment, regardless of field or ability.”

THE GRADUATE BOOK

“The Student Book has been an essential accessory for me when I began looking for graduate jobs. The new concept and approach taken by Chris in the book improved my level of self-confidence as an applicant as I applied the recommended steps. It noticeably improved my ability to be interviewed as I had a clear idea of how I should answer the interview questions and what the companies were looking for when they are interviewing a potential employee. The Student Book and the experiences presented in it helped me understand the results of hard work and how a positive attitude towards challenges will assist you in achieving the best result. In other words, being mentored by the gentlemen at Graduate Coach was the right choice for me when I began taking my future career opportunities more seriously.”

“This book has so much informations that I wish I’d been taught at university or by someone when I started working. It gives you strategies on how to succeed in your career. It also has made me hopeful that I’m not the only one struggling to succeed and failure shouldn’t scare me. Perfect go to book for ideas.”
