The world of film is a very exciting place to work at the moment. Particularly in Britain, business has boomed with an annual intake of £4.6 billion. With British films  excelling in special effects in the 70s and 80s with projects such as Alien and Batman. This reputation continued with modern films and animations leading the way with visual effects, as seen in the Harry Potter films. The advent of digital production has also increased the need for digital media positions and film production jobs.

 Careers in film and digital media are able to offer a wide range of opportunities and some say they are the future for film production jobs.

1. Visual Effects Artists

Will use combined software to generate movement, images and other such effects. Visual effects are important in putting films on the map and can be a vital element for the success or failure of a film. This department may include areas such as:

2. Animation

Is a popular approach to portray characters and environments in motion. Characters can be brought to life from traditional pencil and paper to digital creation on specialised software. Within the animation genre a wide variety of roles are available including:

  • Art Director
  • Digital Modeler
  • Texture/lighting and Technical Director

3. Motion Media

Designers are able to combine graphic design with film-making, animation and interactive media to create on-air promotions and films. Film production jobs within motion media include:

4. Sound Designers

Of course digital film production jobs require an extensive digital background but being full of creative ideas can help you get started. You can take digital film and screen courses at university or college. To develop experience and digital production knowledge be prepared to take a runner role initially. The experience is vital and the hard work will give you an excellent insight into the digital film industry.
