What are the New Rules?
The government has announced new rules, preventing international students on a student visa from bringing dependants, such as family members with them. There is an exception for post-graduate students who are studying for a PhD, or doing a research-based degree, who are still allowed to bring dependants with them as before.
A dependant is a spouse, an unmarried partner or a child under the age of 18.
Those with skilled worker visas will still be able to bring dependants as they were before the changes.
These changes start from January 2024.
