Do You Need A Grad Landing Page To Promote Yourself?

Jul 23, 2024

Companies construct landing pages for themselves all the time. But students are far more loath to do it.

The question is, why?

When you think about it, it doesn’t make much sense. After all, students need to sell themselves just as much as businesses need to sell their products. And setting up a landing page is an ideal way to do that.

This post looks at why you need a graduate landing page. It’s a little strange, but given the complexity of today’s job market, it’s also essential. Here’s everything you need to know:

It Showcases Your Work

Most employers are used to receiving reams of CVs and then rifling through them, looking for anything in them that might stand out. But, of course, graduates can find this challenging. It’s hard to know what to include given the limited space and format.

That’s where a grad website or landing page can help. The website design could include videos, examples, and interactive elements to encourage hiring managers to learn more about you.

Of course, it’s not a panacea. It won’t guarantee you’ll get a job. However, including a QR code with a link to your site engages the hiring manager and encourages them to learn more about you and get to know you better. (It’s completely different from having your CV just passed around and then put to the bottom of a file).

It Lets You Control Your Brand

Another reason you need a grad landing page is that it lets you control your brand. You have more say about how you present yourself and aren’t restricted to resumé conventions.

Controlling the narrative around who you are and what you have to offer is essential. It lets you differentiate yourself from other candidates and provides real reasons why a company should hire you over the competition. It’s just like being a company where your labour is the product.

It Helps You Find Peers

A side benefit of building a grad landing page is that it helps you flesh out your network and engage more with peers. People searching for workers in your area can find you and introduce themselves to you.

Websites are particularly helpful for grad students doing specialist or professional work in an independent capacity. Landing pages let customers and other people interested in your field find and hire you. It gives you the opportunity to expand your reach and get involved with more people than you would otherwise.

It Makes You Seem More Professional

Graduates straight out of university don’t always have a professional persona. After all, they haven’t had time to develop one yet. But that’s where a grad landing page can help. These let you put your best foot forward, allowing you to shake off the manacles of university or college and get out there into the real world.

Furthermore, you can adapt your website to specifically make you seem more credible. Changing the layout, design and content enables you to put your best foot forward before you even get into the interview.
